projekttransrapid – A high speed magnetic levitation rail links between Munich’s international airport to it’s city center – was one of Germany’s most promising and ambitious mass transportation projects. Undertaken by a consortium headed by Siemens, projekttransrapid was to re-shape the access into one of Germany’s most important commercial hubs.
The project was one of the most important goals to Bavarian Governor Edmund Stoiber, and was considered his ‘pet project’ up until he finished his term in 2007. Sadly, shortly thereafter, the project was ditched due to it’s escalating costs.
Rapid, efficient, public transportation is not a game at all – it is one of the most important means to combat climate change and the effects of global warming, so it is crucial now more than ever to find the means to fund such projects, which have a high upfront cost, but can be part of the solution to a problem that may turn out to have much higher costs over time.
